    INSTRUCTIONS FOR JULY 2014 EXAMINATION APPLICANTS

    SAINT PAUL RIVERCENTRE
     

    On Tuesday, July 15, 2014, additional information will be posted to the Applicant Portal for those sitting for the July bar examination   The posted Admission Card MUST be printed and brought to the bar exam.  

    DATES TUESDAY, JULY 29 AND WEDNESDAY, JULY 30, 2014
    LOCATION

    ROY WILKINS AUDITORIUM AT SAINT PAUL RIVERCENTRE

    PARKING

    RIVERCENTRE RAMP (Enter from Kellogg Boulevard) or
    KELLOGG BOULEVARD RAMP (Enter from Kellogg Boulevard, westbound lane only)

    REGISTRATION 

    DOORS OPEN FOR REGISTRATION AT 7:30 A.M.

    • You must sign-in with the Registrars on both days.
    • Allow 20 to 30 minutes to complete registration.

    TUESDAY 

    You must present the following items to the registrar:

    • The Admission Ticket printed from your Applicant Portal

                  You MUST print the Admission Ticket from your Applicant Portal BEFORE
                  arriving at the bar exam; 
    and

    • Your Driver's License (or State ID with picture and signature).

    NO ONE WILL BE ADMITTED WITHOUT A WHITE ADMISSION TICKET.

    • You will receive an Examinee ID Badge for entry to the secure testing area and exam room.
    • You must wear the Examinee ID Badge during both days of the exam.

    WEDNESDAY

    You must sign-in again before going into the secure testing area and exam room.

    You must present the following items to the registrar:

    • Your Examinee ID Badge
    • Your Driver's License (or ID with picture and signature);

    You must wear your Examinee ID Badge on the second day of the exam. 

    BRING TO EXAM

    TUESDAY

    • The Admission Ticket;
    • Your Driver's License (or ID with your picture and signature);
    • The Board will provide black ink pens for writing the exam on Tuesday. You may not bring your own pens into the exam room.
    • Your laptop computer if you are registered.

    WEDNESDAY

    • Your Examinee ID Badge;
    • Your Driver's License (or ID with your picture and signature);
    • The Board will provide mechanical pencils for this portion of the exam.  You may not bring your own pencils into the exam room.

    EXAM HOURS 

    MORNING SESSION - TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY

    • Registration is from 7:30 - 8:30 A.M.
    • You must be seated by 8:40 A.M. for instructions.
    • Morning test session is from 9:00 A.M. - 12:00 noon.

    AFTERNOON SESSION - TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY

    • You must return by 1:10 P.M. and be seated by 1:15 P.M. for instructions.
    • Afternoon test session is from 1:30 P.M. - 4:30 P.M.
    TIMEKEEPING

    Digital clocks will be situated at the front of each seating section.  The official clock is located on the Exam Supervisor's platform.  All other clocks will be synchronized with the official clock (to the extent possible).

     

    PROHIBITED ITEMS

         Examinees may NOT bring:

    • Any electronic device, including, but not limited to: Cell phone, IPod, MP3 Player, PDA, Blackberry, camera, or any other digital or analog recording device (except a laptop computer if you are registered to use one.)
    • Pencils or Ink Pens (these items will be provided at the exam)
    • Any bag, purse, backpack, laptop bag, briefcase etc
    • Wallet
    • Watches and clocks (digital or analog)
    • Food or Beverage
    • Coats, Jackets, Scarves, Hats & Caps
    • Books or Papers
    • Eyeglass case
    • Highlighters
    • Earplugs (Foam earplugs will be provided in the exam room - one pair per day)
    • Facial tissues (Tissues will be available at the Head Proctor table for each section)
    • Cargo pants
    • Weapons
    • Mace
    • Cigarettes/E-Cigarettes

    If using a LAPTOP to take the bar exam, you may NOT have:

    • A wireless mouse (a mouse with a cord is acceptable)
    • Wireless keyboard (a keyboard with a cord is acceptable)
    • Computer cooling devices

    The following items MAY be brought into the exam room, but must be placed in a clear plastic bag:

    • Car keys
    • Keyless car device
    • Hotel key
    • Credit card/cash
    • Contact case
    • Extra eye glasses - but not eye glass case
    • Aspirin/Ibuprofen or similar (no bottle)
    • Medication (no bottle)
    • Eye drops
    • Chapstick/Lipstick (may be required to open)
    • Passport/Driver's license/Photo ID
    • Coughdrops - out of wrapper
    • Feminine Hygiene Products

    UNSECURE AREA

    You may leave personal items which cannot be taken into the exam room in a designated area outside the exam room.  This area is not monitored and any items placed there are not secure.  We strongly urge you to leave all valuables at home.  The Board of Law Examiners and the Saint Paul RiverCentre authorities assume no responsibility for lost or stolen personal items.

    FOOD SERVICE

    Food service is limited at RiverCentre.  We recommend that you bring a bag lunch.  Downtown restaurants are not close to RiverCentre and can be busy at this time of day.  If you do bring your lunch, you must leave it outside the exam room.  NO FOOD OR BEVERAGES MAY BE BROUGHT INTO THE SECURE TESTING AREA OR EXAM ROOM

    SPECIAL PERMISSION

    Anyone who has requested and received special permission to bring an otherwise prohibited item into the exam room (such as pillows, lumbar rolls, wrist rest, ergonomic chairs, etc.) must present the green permission card to the security person at the secure testing area entrance and ask for assistance.

    LAPTOP

    If you are registered to use your laptop to take the exam, review the instructions you received on your applicant portal with your admission ticket prior to the exam. 

    SEATING AT THE EXAM Examinees using their laptop computers and examinees handwriting the examination may sit in the same room.

    • Results of the exam will be posted to your Applicant Portal.

     Tuesday, October 7, 2014

    • Examinee numbers of successful applicants will be posted at the Minnesoa Judicial Center, at the the local law schools and on the Board of Law Examiners' web site at www.ble.state.mn.us.  Please make a note of your examination number at the exam.  The Board will not give out this information over the phone after the exam.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE BAR EXAMINATION

    • Scratch Paper is not allowed for any session of the exam.
    • Examinees may write in the essay test booklets, but may not tear any pages from the booklets or tear the booklets apart in any way.
    • No examination booklet or paper may be removed from the exam room.
    • If the examination should be interrupted for any reason, examinees must remain seated and wait for further instructions from the Exam Supervisor.
    • The official time of the examination session will be on the clock on the Exam Supervisor's platform.
    • Examinees may not leave the secure testing area or exam room once admitted.
    • Once the instructions begin, examinees may not talk.  An examinee who needs assistance should signal the nearest proctor by raising their hand.
    • An announcement will be made when there are only 15 minutes remaining in the test session.  Examinees may not leave the exam room during the last 15 minutes of each session.
    • Examinees must stop when time is called and remain seated until all the exams have been collected and counted.
    • The Saint Paul RiverCentre is a smoke-free facility.  
    • E-Cigarettes are not allowed in the exam room.
    • Please avoid wearing perfume or cologne.

    February 2015 Examination

    The February 2015 Minnesota Bar Examination is scheduled for February 24 & 25, 2015 at St. Paul RiverCentre.

    Filing deadlines for the February 2015 bar examination:

    The timely filing deadline is Wednesday, October 15, 2014
    The late filing deadline is Monday, December 1, 2014
    (Postmarks are accepted.)


      UBE Court Order 

    Effective February 1, 2013, Minnesota is a Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) state.  The list of Minnesota bar examination topics have changed with the February 2014 MN Bar Exam.  See Order Promulgating Amendments to the Rules for Admission to the Bar, dated January 17, 2013.
